法国公共卫生部门的流行病学家科斯塔斯·丹尼斯（Kostas Danis）告诉法新社：“一名儿童同时感染了其他呼吸道病毒，在有症状的情况下去了三所学校，但并未传播（新冠）病毒，这表明儿童的（病毒）传播动力学可能存在差异。”
该男孩只有轻微症状，他的病毒水平也很低，几乎无法检测到。研究人员认为，儿童通常只有轻微的症状，他们传播病毒的几率可能远远低于被感染的成年人。报告称，“儿童可能不是新冠病毒传播的主要来源。”

英国伦敦大学学院的研究人员本月表示，学校停课对遏制新冠病毒传播的影响可能很小，应该考虑到因此要付出的巨大的社会和经济代价。目前已有数十个国家关闭了学校，但一些疫情增长趋缓的国家也正在逐步恢复学校活动。
报道称，儿童在传播新冠病毒中的作用仍然是关键谜团之一。与年龄较大的人相比，感染新冠病毒的儿童发展成重症的比例很小，但有些儿童的新冠肺炎症状也很严重，甚至失去了生命。
